About Kyushu University

Kyushu University

Kyushu University is a comprehensive university and the fourth national university, followed by the University of Tokyo, Kyoto University and Tohoku University, established in 1911. The university is a top university in Japan with a history of 100 years. This university has achieved great accomplishments in numerous world-class scientific projects. As one of the ten national universities, this university carries out the highest level of educational research activities, committed to both teaching and scientific research. The university also has cooperation with domestic and foreign universities to promote education globalization.
Nowadays, Kyushu University has become a huge intellectual research group with authoritative education and research centers. The university has approximately 11,800 undergraduates, 7,000 graduate students and 8,000 faculty members active in various research fields. While cultivating high-tech talents, the university continues to show the world plenty of fundamental and applied scientific research achievements.
Kyushu University is also known as a new type of university active on the international academic exchanges. It has a complete and reliable procedure to admit and cultivate international students for faculties. The number of international students accepted has exceeded 2,500. Among every 100 master’s and doctoral students at Kyushu University, around 20 to 30 are international students. Additionally, the university has signed agreements with universities around the world, encouraging students to attend exchange programs or language training to study abroad, broaden horizons and grow their talents.
There are 12 schools in the university, namely School of Interdisciplinary Science and Innovation, School of Letters, School of Education, School of Law, School of Economics, School of Science, chool of Medicine, School of Dentistry, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Engineering, School of Design, School of Agriculture. Taking Fukuoka’s historical origins as a driving force, these universities organize exchanges and research interactions with universities overseas to continuously improve their research scopes and directions.
Kyushu University has 5 campuses in Fukuoka and Oita. The main campus was relocated from Hakozaki to the new campus in Ito in 2018. The newly built Ito campus is one of the largest campuses in Japan, with facilities such as modern teaching buildings, research buildings, libraries, bookstores, cafeterias, cafes and grocery stores.
